==WHY HAVE A PLAYER GUILD?==
This is entirely a roleplaying device. Being in a guild merely points out to other players that you are in a band or club that has common aims. The Guild Master sets the guilds aims in the charter and your aims should be the same. You get a custom title above your head composed of the guild abbreviation and a title given to you by the Guild Leader.

You are free to resign from a guild at any time or to create your own, so this isn't a power trip for the guild leaders. If they don't provide decent support and reasons to remain in the guild, they will soon lose members.

===DOES IT CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT MY CHARACTER?===
It does not add abilities or impose any scripted restrictions on how you play the game.However, in a sense it does, because it makes no sense for a member of a chaos guild doing virtuous things like belonging to the order guards. So the restrictions are in fact all roleplaying ones that you impose on yourself.

===COLOURS===
Members of guilds, Rival guilds and Allied guilds are different colours in their tooltips. You can play around with these colours - they don't effect other players, just how YOU see them. See the OPTIONS button on the paperdoll.

===HOW MANY GUILDS CAN I BE IN?===
Just one at a time.

===POTENTIAL FUTURE CHANGES===
To use the rivalry and alliances one day to introduce PvP on another map. At the moment you cannot target another player with a weapon. In the future, being in a rival guild could allow this to happen. It's not in the game now, so don't go looking for it. Be assured however, that Vale and the friendly maps will always remain free of PvP and PK except in the arenas.

==STARTING OR JOINING A GUILD==
*If you have the latest client, click on the GUILDS button on your paperdoll.
*If you have an older client, type .guilds
*Or find the Player Guilds button on the CHARACTER gump on your paperdoll.

If you are a member of a guild, the guild menu is opened.

If you are not currently a member of any player guild, a gump opens with 3 options:

#Create a Guild. You fill in the Guild Name, the Abbreviation, and make sure you have 100,000 Gold in your backpack. Click the OKAY button to create the guild.
#Stop or allow other guilds from asking if you want to become a member of their guild. Two options - Allow or Ignore.
#List all existing guilds in the game, the current Guild Master and members. There are links to the guild charter and website if set.

==GUILD FEATURES & MANAGEMENT==
Player Guilds on Sorcerors Quest are slightly different from other shards. Because we are not a PvP or PK shard, the usual guild enemies are simply called "rivalry".

===FACTIONS===
*A guild can be either Chaos, Neutral or Order faction. The guild master can change the faction if they wish
*You can only ally with a guild from your own faction
*You can only be a rival to another guild if they are NOT the same faction as your guild
*If you change your guild faction, all alliances and rivalries are instantly broken.

===RANKS===
There are 5 pre-defined ranks:
#Ronin
#Member
#Emissary
#Warlord
#Guildmaster.

The Guild Master can change any member's title to suit the character of their guild. A guild member can have their rank changed by promotion, demotion and can be kicked out of the guild. If you are unable to perform one of those functions then you are not highly enough ranked.

===DISABLING TITLES===
You can remove most above-head and paperdoll titles from your character by using the .options command. This doesn't actually change your title, just hides it from others.

===ABBREVIATION===
A member of the guild will have the guild abbreviation as part of the tooltip above head title system. Eg if the guild abbreviation is TLC, and they are the guildmaster, then the title will be [TLC] Guild Master,

===RIVALRY AND ALLIANCES===
From the main guild menu, there is a button under the diplomacy heading called Guilds. It will display all the guilds in the game. If authorised, buttons for Rivalry and Alliance can be clicked to send a message to the other guild leader. If they are not online they will see the invitation when they next logon.

===RECRUITING===
When at rank 3 or above you can use the guild menus to invite another player to join your guild. They are called emissaries because their main role is to recruit. Make sure you are standing next to them so you can select them. If they are not blocking guild membership requests, they will get a gump asking them to join or not.

===CLEANUPS===
*If a guild member does not logon for more than 30 days they are automatically removed from the guild.
*A guild with no members will be automatically removed. This is checked daily.

===VOTING FOR NEW GUILD MASTER===
*If the guild master leaves the guild for any reason a mail message is sent telling all ranks 2 and above to vote for a new member. I'd suggest you have less than 50% of your members at rank 1 or it might be a little hard to elect a new master!
*You have 72 hours to vote
*A tie in votes will restart the voting
*For a new master to be elected, more than 50% of the entire membership must vote
*When a vote is underway ranks 2 and above will get a voting button on their guild menu.

===WEBSITE & CHARTER===
The guild master can set a guild website and charter. It is highly recommended that you do both because other guilds and even players not in a guild can see this information from the guild menus.

===GUILD NAME & ABBREVIATION===
The guild master can change a guild's name and/or abbreviation.

===RANKS PERMISSIONS===
{|
You can buy most of the tools used for Carpentry from the guildmaster, but they can also be made using Tinkering. Runes are something that you'll want to have if you want to move quickly from one town to another.
Scrolls use up no reagents, which is good if you haven't many. It would be wise to carry around some if you're low on reagents. Scrolls also cast much faster than a spellbook, so a lot of mages prefer to own a lot of scrolls.
== Making a homunculus (utilities)==
Needed ingredients (have all available and ready to select):

* 1 Elixir
* 1 Totem
* 1 Gem (one of: tourmaline, sapphire, emerald, diamond, amethyst, ruby, star sapphire, citrine, amber, fire gem, frost gem, or energy gem)

'''How to make:'''

Double-click either the elixir or the totem. It will ask for the other, and then asks for a gem.
The colour of the gem will impart its colour to the homunculus. If you choose no gem it will give a default brownish colour.

'''Skill needed:'''

You will need 100 in alchemy in order to succeed 50% of the time.

== Crushing Gems (utilities)==
In order to make recharge crystals, a specialist scribe needs blank crystal balls (made by a specialist tinker) and also crushed gems made by the Specialist alchemist.
The specialist alchemist makes piles of crushed gems by selecting it from the Utilities menu in the craftbook and then selecting either an identified magic gem or a bag containing identified magic gems.
Each magic gem has a magic level from 1 to 5. The amount of crushed gems produced is 10 time the magic level..

If a container was targeted, then a gump asks you what levels of gems to crush. The gems are then crushed and placed in a pile in your crafting bag/backpack. (It looks like recoloured sand.)

'''Skill needed:'''

The difficulty required to succeed 50% of the time in crushing a magic gem is 20 times the gem level. That means a level 1 gem only needs 20 skill. A level 5 gem is checked against 100 skill.

|Carpentry is the art of Woodworking. Many different wooden tools and items can be made using this skill. You can buy most of the tools used for Carpentry from the guildmaster, but they can also be made using Tinkering. Runes are something that you'll want to have if you want to move quickly from one town to another.
|Inscription is the trade of making scrolls that flow with magical energy. These scrolls can be made and put into a spell book for mages to use. Scrolls use up no reagents, which is good if you haven't many. It would be wise to carry around some if you're low on reagents. Scrolls also cast much faster than a spellbook, so a lot of mages prefer to own a lot of scrolls.
When you're skill is high enough and you have the correct strength requirement, it would be wise to create some leather and studded armour. |Alchemy
|Use Alchemy to turn picked plants into reagents. Alchemy is mainly used to create a variety of bottled effects ranging from cures to explosions. A few heal potions in your backpack is considered essential.
|-
|Blacksmithing
|Blacksmithy is used for repairing and crafting armour and weapons by a forge and anvil. Blacksmiths work with ingots, so be sure to have plenty of them to make items.
|-
|Carpentry
|Carpentry is the art of Woodworking. Many different wooden tools and items can be made using this skill. You can buy most of the tools used for Carpentry from the guildmaster, but they can also be made using Tinkering. Runes are something that you'll want to have if you want to move quickly from one town to another.
|Cooking
|Cooking is a good skill for raising Dexterity and Intelligence. It goes up quite quickly too. It is also a real life skill, which can truly help you in the game. An oven is a must have component for a chef. Choose from over 100 recipes.
|Inscription
|Inscription is the trade of making scrolls that flow with magical energy. These scrolls can be made and put into a spell book for mages to use. Scrolls use up no reagents, which is good if you haven't many. It would be wise to carry around some if you're low on reagents. Scrolls also cast much faster than a spellbook, so a lot of mages prefer to own a lot of scrolls.
|Scribe
|None
|-
|Tailoring
|Tailoring is a good skill to have so you can make bags and pouches. You can also make fancy clothing to be worn in town. When you're skill is high enough and you have the correct strength requirement, it would be wise to create some leather and studded armour. You can also make some decorative items when used with Carpentry (e.g. Training Dummy).
|Tailoring
|No
|None
|-
|Tinkering
|Tinkering can be used to create tools used for carpentry and kitchenware. You can also make lock picks, clocks and barrel parts. Jewellery can be made too. For the full list of items that can be made, have a look at the Data Tables.

The idea for SQ was born in winter 2001 when OldnGrey and family were waiting to go into the cinema. After a period of development the game made it online and has undergone many changes since then. In early 2006 we changed the theme of the shard. We chose the ancient mythology of Ireland because it's so rich and can match Ultima Online very well. OldnGrey created the idea that he developed into the Sorceror's Quest. He is actually old AND grey and a proud parent of young adults, and loves driving cars.

The Sorceror's quest was returned to the internet towards the end of 2019, and will be carried forth for many years to come.
